How I Went From Writing in Class to Working as a Ghostwriter

It all started with one incredibly impulsive decision that changed everything for me.

I won’t bore you with a long backstory. I’ve always been writing, from school until now. It just… felt right. Like something you don’t fully understand, but you know it’s what gives your day meaning.

I always knew that one day I would become a writer. I just had no idea how. Honestly, I still don’t. At some point, I simply decided that less thinking and more action was probably the answer.

Like anyone who wants to pursue art, I often heard the same sentence:

“Get a normal job so you can actually make money.”

And I did exactly that.

In my early twenties, I became a waitress, which turned out to be a disaster. For me. And for the customers. I couldn’t balance a tray even if my life depended on it.

After that, I became an accountant. Not only that, I worked my way up to managing a department. Despite all the failing grades I had in math, it turns out I actually understand numbers.

Take that, my math teacher.

But… as you can probably guess, it still wasn’t where I belonged.

One day, I just couldn’t take the monotony anymore. And without thinking too much about it, I said the first thing that came to mind:

“I quit.”

I had a few months to figure out how exactly I was going to become a writer… without my “stable” job.

So I started applying. Sending CVs. Building a portfolio. Trying, even when I wasn’t entirely sure what I was doing.

And then I came across a… very questionable Facebook post.

They were looking for writers for romance novels.

I decided to try.

Surprisingly, they accepted me almost immediately. After a short conversation, they asked me to send my ID so they could prepare a contract.

At that moment, my thought process was very simple:

I will either wake up with a loan in my name or I will start writing books

Turns out… I won.

That’s how I started working as a ghostwriter.

Years have passed since then.

And that impulsive decision? It’s still the best one I’ve ever made.
