The Puppet King is a book that some readers might find quite dark, but it’s not dark just for the sake of being dark.
Honestly… the fact that my mom read it and didn’t faint? I count that as a win. She’s a relatively new fantasy reader, so the fact that she actually enjoyed it feels like the highest form of praise.
Now, you might say, “Well, she’s your mom, she has to say that.”And maybe you’re right. But what matters more to me is what you will think.
Because this story isn’t soft.
There is a love story, but it’s not sweet, not safe, and definitely not a reward for everything the characters go through. It’s intense. Real. Sometimes gentle, when it needs to be, and sometimes destructive in its own way.
Most of my characters are morally gray, but that doesn’t make them the same. Each of them has their own desires, their own limits, their own version of right and wrong, even if those lines have to shift. Because this is a world shaped by survival. And in a war, people don’t always get to stay who they were.
And if you enjoy stories where sarcasm shows up at the worst possible moment… you’ll probably feel at home here.
Because I do that. A lot.
I laugh when I shouldn’t. I make jokes when things get uncomfortable. I’m still not sure if it’s a defense mechanism or just who I am, but either way, I gave that part of myself to my main character.
This isn’t just a story about a prince, or a kingdom, or even power. It’s about what happens when someone is pushed too far, and what they become when they try to find their way back. So if you’re drawn to stories that live somewhere between light and dark, where nothing is simple, and no one is entirely innocent—
You might want to step into this world.
You’ll find characters who feel a little too real, choices that come with consequences, and a world that doesn’t forgive. And if that’s the kind of story you’re looking for…
You might find exactly what you need in The Puppet King. Just… don’t expect it to be kind.

I love when the author decides to put some humour in a not so appropriate place, this brings out some new emotions that maybe you haven’t been aware of. First time this happened to me was when I started reading Steven King at the age of 12.
Can’t wait to see the full version of your book!!
